My first attempt at making my own clothes. I am pretty happy with the results (just don’t look too closely at the hems!) … there were a few moments where I thought I might have a Gordon Gartrell shirt on my hands but I stuck with it and I think it came out okay. One thing I learned: pattern sizes are not ’suggestions’ and should be taken seriously … this fits, but barely, because I made it about two sizes too small!

I’ve written before about my love of old penguin covers, so I was excited to see that over at Apartment Therapy they’ve answered a question I’ve had as well: where to get those oversize Penguin posters/canvasses that have been popping up in decor magazines. One commenter points here, where they have a good selection, but I’m partial to the ones pointed out by another commenter, a series of silk screen prints by Canadian artist Alanna Cavanagh - they have coffee stains and the signs of wear that, to me, make my old books that much more beloved. One hesitation I have though … if you’re going to go that large with a book cover, I think it must be the perfect title. You know? The Picture of Dorian Gray & A Room of One’s Own would both be good contenders for me, but somehow they are not quite right. What book cover would you put on your wall, if you could?

Looking at some pictures this morning of a fantastic-looking group show at Cafe Pause in Tokyo (over now unfortunately) … it featured Argentinian illustrators Colorblok and Parquerama … the use of color in each of their work is amazing. This piece below is by Colorblok. (And Parquerama has an Etsy shop as it turns out!)

I am loving these lace-patterned, screenprinted cards from cutiepie company … the colours are so fresh & so exactly like their names - they would make great ‘thank-you’ notes to send or receive in the midst of a grey and snowy January!
